Our History
Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota believes every child deserves a healthy start. In 1989, it established the North Dakota Caring Foundation. The Foundation, in turn, provides Caring for Children, a program that connects the state's uninsured children with medical, dental and mental health care providers. Since the program's inception, more than 4,500 children have received the care they need.
Caring for Children provides enrolled children with primary medical, dental and mental health care services at no cost to their families. These children are from working families who do not qualify for government-funded programs. Even so, they cannot afford private insurance.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota provides all administrative support for the Foundation; every dollar contributed goes directly to providing health care coverage for children.
The Foundation operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and is privately funded through the generosity of foundations, churches, individuals, businesses and civic organizations.
